Birth of an Assassin by Rik Stone @stone_rik

Are there books you really don’t enjoy?

I hate a slow pace and while description is as necessary as any other part of your story, too much of it is a killer. If my thoughts say ‘for goodness sake get on with it, it’s time to put it aside, I then hate it all the more because I can’t put it aside, if I start reading a book, I finish it. I know, stupid.

If you could study any subject at university, what would you pick?

I studied the sciences because I saw the chance of a better future. If money hadn’t been an issue, I would have chosen something akin to literature.

How do you work through self-doubt and fear?

I ignore it for the purpose of work, but it never goes away so I guess I live with it.

What is your greatest character strength?

I lose the plot occasionally, but I am focused and determined by nature so I don’t stay down for long.

What is your weakest character trait?

I suffer from being oversensitive… big time!

Birth of an Assassin

Set against the backdrop of Soviet, post-war Russia, Birth of an Assassin follows the transformation of Jez Kornfeld from wide-eyed recruit to avenging outlaw. Amidst a murky underworld of flesh-trafficking, prostitution and institutionalized corruption, the elite Jewish soldier is thrown into a world where nothing is what it seems, nobody can be trusted, and everything can be violently torn from him.
